Why We Don’t Offer Free Consultations

“Do you offer free consultations?”

Our potential clients ask this all the time. There are many family law attorneys that offer “free consultations.” At Grisi & Budde, we do not offer free consultations, but we have our reasons:

Just Like Everything Else, You Get What You Pay For

If you’ve already visited other firms for their free consultation, you may have already discovered this: It is very hard to thoroughly discuss the issues in your life and in your divorce in 30 minutes. And not only that, but most attorneys are going to want to tell you about themselves and their firm during your free consultation.

As a result, many free consultations end up being a meet-and-greet sales pitch for the firm, with little valuable information relayed to the client.

I want to hear your story. I want to find out what the issues are in your case, what the issues are in your marriage, in your finances, with your children. I want to know what you want your life to look like after your divorce is over. Discussing these things and getting to know you, your situation, and your life takes time.

So my consultations are 60-90 minutes. We will cover the divorce and dissolution process, your future financial picture, your future parenting schedule, what to expect in litigation, and how much your divorce will cost you. We will review your documents, and I will be able to give you personalized advice based on your circumstances. Thirty minutes simply is not enough.

Time is Money

Your time is valuable, as is mine. I am scheduling a block of my time to focus solely on you and your life. Just like you get paid for your work, I believe I deserve to be paid for the time, information and analysis that I am providing to you through the investment and effort I put into each consultation. Conversely, I am motivated to ensure that you leave my office with valuable advice and information in exchange for your consultation fee.

Our Flat Fee Family Law Consultations

For family law consultations, we charge a $275 flat fee.

In your Family Law Consultation, you will meet with Attorney Budde for 60-90 minutes, and Attorney Budde will answer all your questions related to your case, and will provide you with the following:

  1. A roadmap and timeline of your divorce or dissolution, including what to expect at each step.
  2. An estimate of your spousal support and child support for your case, including a worksheet showing the calculations.
  3. Specific advice regarding your next steps prior to filing and guidance on how to interact or discuss your case with your spouse prior to filing.
  4. An hourly billed total cost estimate and a flat fee quote for your specific case.
  5. The affidavit forms and other documents you will need to complete prior to filing your divorce or dissolution.

You can pay for your consultation by cash or credit card. If you schedule your consultation online, you will pay in advance when you schedule your appointment.
