Northeast Ohio Court Coronavirus Policies and Procedures

Every Ohio court is adopting individual policies and procedures regarding the COVID-19 (CoronaVirus) outbreak.

In order to keep our clients up-to-date regarding their cases, we have collected links to Northeast Ohio courts’ coronavirus announcements and information for a number of courts throughout Northeast Ohio. This is not a comprehensive list of all courts in the region.

The links below will take you to the each court’s information web page regarding their policies during this pandemic. For the courts in which we practice, I have briefly summarized each court’s policies.

Massillon Municipal Court (Stark)

Medina County Domestic Relations Court (4/15/20) – Attendance at hearings will be through the court’s teleconference system, when possible. Court must pre-authorize any parties and counsel before they will be permitted to enter the courthouse for final hearings or dissolution hearings.

Portage County Domestic Relations Court (3/17/20) – Temporary hearings, Status Conferences, and Pre-Trial hearings will be conducted by telephone only; final and evidentiary hearings will be addressed on a case-by-case basis; Mediations by telephone only; GAL meetings by telephone or Skype; March 21, 2020 parenting class is cancelled.

Stark County Common Pleas Court Emergency Order

Stark County Family Law Court (Updated 3/30/20) – Domestic Relations trials, hearings and proceedings in divorce, dissolution, custody, contempt, and child support cases are suspended and continued until further order of the Court except CPO hearings. Uncontested hearings, Dissolutions, and Pre-trial hearings may be heard electronically. Temporary Orders will be issued on affidavits and motions of the parties.

Summit County Common Pleas Court

Summit Domestic Relations Court (4/13/20) – All hearings EXCEPT CPO hearings will be conducted through Zoom video conference. Up-to-date information can be found at the link. The Court’s updates can be found at https://drcourt.org/wp/covid19/.

Summit County Probate Court (3/27/20) – The court requests that parties use eFiling; social distancing will be enforced in the courthouse; many court appearances can be changed to telephone status conferences; non-essential hearings may be continued upon the filing of a motion; hearings may be conducted by Skype.

Summit County Child Support Enforcement Agency (CSEA) (3/17/20) – Effective March 17, 2020, the Summit County CSEA has suspended face-to-face access at their offices. All communications will be through phone, email, or their web portal. Administrative hearings will be conducted by telephone through April 30, 2020. Child support payments can be made online, by phone, by mail, by mobile app, or at MoneyGram locations. More information can be found at the PDF document in link.
